I have long been working as a journalist in the Brazilian press, mainly on environmental, literary and behavioral issues. At the same time I developed a career as a writer, publishing books on literature and journalism. At some point I won some awards, such as the Jabuti (ah no! I was only a finalist) or being invited to the International Writing Program at Iowa University. I dared to give some lectures about literature in some cities in Brazil (and even in the USA) and make some crazy trips around the world to do my job as a journalist. So I finally decided to enter the academic world: first, I completed my master's degree at the University of São Paulo on the 1930s novel. Then I wanted to expand my research abroad, and I came to IU with an initial project on the connections between American and Brazilian literature of the 1930s.
