Jonathan Caudell is a first-year M.A. student in Hispanic Linguistics. He received a B.A. in Hispanic Linguistics and a B.A. in Communications with minors in Portuguese and Fashion from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. While in Columbus, he had the opportunity to intern and volunteer with a local refugee resettlement organization, U.S. Together, where he did translation and case management work for Spanish-speaking refugees. He also worked on research in expanding linguistic access to Spanish-speaking diabetes patients through coordination with physicians, interpreters, and educators. These experiences sparked a passion for social justice and its incorporation into social science research. He hopes to extensively explore sociolinguistics and language contact during his time at IU. His outside hobbies include sun bathing, taking his cat on walks, and watching YouTube videos.
