Maria Cintra is a doctoral student in the Portuguese Literature program, where she obtained the degree of M.A. with the thesis Poesia e música : a hiper-harmonia do espirito. Um estudo transdisciplinar da obra Mensagem de Fernando Pessoa. In this research, she sought to establish technical principles common to literature and music theory, specifically to functional harmony. In 2014 she worked as a visiting professor at the Universidade de Brasília, where she taught Portuguese literature from the 19th and 20th centuries and Luso-African literature. Her research focuses on exploring the intersection between poetry, science and music. In addition to her academic activities, she is devoted to music and plays violin in the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra.
