Juan Morilla Romero is a Ph.D. student in Hispanic Literatures with a minor in Media Studies. He received a B.A. in Journalism from Universidad de Sevilla, and a M.A. in Hispanic Literatures from Texas Tech University. His research focuses on the systematic threats to the freedom of the press in contemporary Mexico. He is specially interested in both professional and amateur journalists who put their lives at risk to challenge the control of the information and report to the people what is happening in the context of the war on drugs. He analyzes the role of journalists in literature and film in Mexico as well as the literary works written by journalists.
