José Luis is a doctoral candidate with an M.A. in Hispanic Literature and a Minor in Critical Theory. He received a B.A. in Political Science from UNAM and a B.A. in Law from ITESM in Mexico City. His work focuses on 20th and 21st-century Latin American culture and literature, mostly on Mexico, Central America, and the Southern Cone, and its intertwinement with aesthetics and political thought. His dissertation, building on the works of Bolívar Echeverría, Rita Segato, Horacio Castellanos Moya, and César Aira, amongst others, studies the exhaustion, as well the prevalence, of narratives of crisis as an instrument for modern political, artistic, and moral discourse.
