This course examines significant trends in Spanish American literature and literary criticism from World War I through the present. We will explore multiple genres (novels, short stories, poetry, and essays) with an eye towards analyzing the roles and representations of revolution (political and literary alike), continuity, change, disruption, rewriting, race, gender, and more. In particular, we will pay careful attention to how texts represent the relationship between cultural production (literature in particular) and politics.
