Course Description

Prerequisite:  HISP-S 280 or consent of the department

This course will focus on soccer in Spain and Latin American countries. We will examine soccer as a popular sport as well as a cultural object that can be examined and understood as media (radio, podcasts, television, cinema, graffiti); politics; religion; colonialism; fan cultures; branding and economics; stadiums; differences in class, race/ethnicity, and gender; and regional and national identities.

Students will do regular homework, write two exams, and do a final project.
