Lindsay Giacomino currently serves as the supervisor of S105, the foundational first-year intensive Spanish course at Indiana University (IU). With a robust background in Hispanic Linguistics, she has been actively engaged in teaching undergraduate students since 2015, encompassing a diverse array of courses within IU's Basic Language Program, including S105, S200, S250, S280, and S326. Previously, Lindsay held a Lecturer position at Iowa State University, where she specialized in developing and teaching Spanish Conversation for Professionals and Spanish Pronunciation and Phonetics courses.
Committed to pedagogical innovation, Lindsay is currently transforming the S105 course into a flipped classroom model rooted in active learning principles. Her future plans include implementing backwards course design aligned with ACTFL proficiency guidelines.
This academic year, Lindsay is actively involved in facilitating a Faculty Learning Community (FLC) focused on Generative AI in Higher Education Classrooms, building on her participation in the 2023-2024 cohort. Additionally, she will be participating in the FLC Engage-Track-Adapt, dedicated to enhancing active learning through data-driven strategies. Lindsay's current pedagogical interests span proficiency-based curriculum design, task-based language teaching, learning analytics, educational technology, generative AI, and innovative grading methodologies such as specifications grading, ungrading, and contract grading.
Before her career in Spanish language instruction, Lindsay served as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Colombia. She has also contributed to various Spanish immersion programs, including the IU Honors Program in Foreign Languages (IUHPFL) in Viña del Mar, Chile (2017, 2018) and Ciudad Real, Spain (2023); the Spanish Language Immersion Camp at IU (2019); and El Lago del Bosque at the Concordia Language Villages in Bemidji, MN (2013-2015).
