You may receive credit for foreign language courses at IU for intermediate credit (Possibly for 200 or 200 & 250) that are below your current language level of proficiency. The credits are of two types:
- credits based on the satisfactory completion of the course you place into
- credits based on high AP exam results
Please note that the procedures for claiming special credit are different for Portuguese and Spanish. Also, native speakers (except residents of Puerto Rico) may not claim special credits in their language. For residents of Puerto Rico you are considered U.S. Citizens and there for your 1st language is considered English and you should take the Spanish Placement Exam and if you take the course you placed into and pass with a “C” or better you’d be eligible for the intermediate credit (Possibly for 200 or 200 & 250 credit).
