Certificate in Spanish and Hispanic Cultures for Global Business

Students in Spanish and Portuguese have the option of pursuing a certificate in Spanish and Hispanic Cultures for Global Business. This certificate is designed to complement most majors and allows you to choose the classes and opportunities that meet your needs and goals. Students who pursue this certificate will improve their Spanish-language skills, increase their intercultural competence, and are prepared to engage with a diverse domestic and global marketplace.

Spanish with International Studies
International Studies, B.A.: 32 credit hours
Spanish, B.A.: 33 credit hours
In pursuing a double major in Spanish and International Studies, you will gain the skills to effectively communicate across cultures in at least two languages, have deep knowledge of at least one region outside the US and analyze information through a multidisciplinary context of theory and methodology. In addition, you will develop skills for critical reading and thinking, teamwork, research and writing, identify and understand cultural differences, and recognize the US as a piece of the global puzzle. Combining Spanish with International Studies can lead to careers in government, diplomacy, political affairs, human rights, NGOs, and international security.

Spanish with Biology
Biology, B.S.: 60 credit hours or Biology, B.A.: 39 credit hours
Spanish, B.A.: 33 credit hours
Students often study biology and Spanish to attain the linguistic skills and cultural competence in preparation for medical school. In addition, with Biology and Spanish, students often pursue a career in ecology, genetics, microbiology, cellular, developmental, environmental, or molecular biology, while students with a B.A. may seek to teach middle school or high school biology, or desire to work in business. Students are able to use their Spanish and cultural competencies in a range of careers.
Spanish with Linguistics
Spanish, B.A.: 33 credit hours
Linguistics, B.A.: 30 credit hours
Linguistics appeals to students who possess a general interest in language. A degree in linguistics prepares students for careers in education, NGOs, business communications, government, and language services, such as translation and interpretation.
Spanish with World Language Education
World Language Education, B.S.Ed.: 48 credit hours in Professional Education + 36 credit hours in Spanish (this is not a double major)
Your coursework will combine extensive foreign language study with a strong grounding in education theory, instructional methodologies, and professional development.
Additionally, you’ll develop a deeper understanding of how people acquire and process language as you learn to teach elementary and secondary language students, as well as an understanding of the broader social, cultural, and geopolitical contexts of multilingualism. Students are able to teach but also work for entities that specialize in educational policy.
Spanish with Criminal Justice
Criminal Justic, B.A.: 30 credit hours

Criminal Justice prepares students for a vast range of careers, in law enforcement, the court system, corrections, and other areas (victim service, non-profits). A degree in Spanish provides students with the language proficiency and cultural competencies to work with a diversity of people and makes them a more attractive job candidate.
Spanish with Psychology
Psychology, B.A.: 42+ credit hours or Psychology, B.S.: 55+ credit hours
Spanish, B.A.: 33 credit hours
You will receive broad coverage of modern scientific psychology and learn the strategies and methods by which knowledge is acquired in this field.Furthermore, a double major in Spanish and Psychology will assist you in developing the communication skills that enable you to make presentations at regional, national conferences, and even global conferences. With Spanish, students will be better able to serve a wide range of clients in careers, such as counseling, therapy, and social work.

You will gain the foundational skills of a liberal arts education, which are prized by employers and vital to a 21st-century career. This double major helps prepare you for a career in government, business, the non-profit sector, or the media.
Spanish with International Law and Institutions

Spanish, B.A.: 33 credit hours
Students will develop practical and intellectual skills to prepare them for careers in international fields. In particular, they will sharpen their analytical, critical thinking, and writing skills. Students will also develop cultural and regional expertise, which will prepare them for careers in diplomacy, politics, law, and data analysis.
Spanish with Media / Journalism
Media, B.A. (36 credit hours) or Journalism, B.A. (42 credit hours)
Spanish, B.A.: 33 credit hours
You will gain the skills it takes to be the eyes and ears of society, as well as having a greater understanding of world events, cultures, and politics. While a degree from the Media School will allow you to work in different fields, such as media production, journalism, and marketing, Spanish enables a student to interact with different audiences.
