Once again, our outstanding undergraduates were recognized for their many academic accomplishments both by the department and the university. Congratulations to all!

Cassidy Garner was awarded the Serías Díaz and Dorf Scholarships to support her study abroad in Alcalá de Henares, Spain.

Anusha Jagdale was awarded the Dorf Scholarship to support her study abroad in Barcelona, Spain.

Abe Kassis, Portuguese Major, received the 2020 Indiana Outstanding College Student of Portuguese Award from the Indiana Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP).  He was also awarded the 2021 Department of Spanish and Portuguese Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award, and the 2021 Executive Dean's Award for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity – one of the highest undergraduate honors in the College of Arts & Sciences.

Sarah Kurpius, Sigma Delta Pi inductee majoring in International Studies and Spanish, was awarded the Sam Burgess Undergraduate Library Research Award for a paper she wrote on Rodoreda's La plaza del diamante for Span-408 Iberian Modernities.

Meena Moorthy was selected for the 2021 Clara Javan Goodbody outstanding senior award for her community and campus service. 

Kathryn Petersen was awarded the Mario Vargas Llosa Award (2010 Nobel Prize in Literature) by the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, Sigma Delta Pi, and the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP).  She will be recognized at the 103rd Annual Conference of the AATSP (July 8-11, 2021) in Atlanta, GA during the conference's Awards Ceremony on Friday, July 9, 2021.

Margaret Schnabel was a finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship, and received the 2021 Elvis J. Stahr Outstanding Senior Award.

Jessica Sprong was awarded the Dr. Andrew Thieneman Scholarship to support her study abroad in Sevilla, Spain.

Vanessa Torres was awarded the Dorf Scholarship to support her study abroad in Alcalá de Henares, Spain.

Natalie Trachsel was awarded the Ashley Crouse Memorial Scholarship to support her study abroad in Madrid.

Jasmine Vann received the Sigma Delta Pi national scholarship to study in Barcelona.
