This is the third class of the Spanish as a Heritage Language series. This class offers the tools to continue improving students’ written Spanish skills for use in various genres, including their own academic interests. Students will learn about political, educational, cultural, sociolinguistic, and literary issues related to Hispanics and Spanish in the United States. We will emphasize a process-oriented approach to writing, including activities such as planning, outlining, writing, peer review, editing, and finalization. In addition, this course aims to expand their composition and oral skills (e.g., debates and presentations) through their bilingual and bicultural realities. The final project consists of conducting a community project in which the students can use their creativity while employing their literacy skills.
