- Course Description
Pre-requisite: S280 or S310 or equivalent.
This course offers an introduction to the cultural history of Spain and Latin America. Students will learn about topics ranging from colonialism, nation formation, modernization, social and political movements, race, gender, and sexuality though the close study of various cultural objects and media such as paintings, film, music, and, food, among others. Students will develop critical insight into how historical meaning is culturally embedded and negotiated. Students will also become equipped with conceptual and analytical tools that allow them to understand and express how different cultural objects produce meaning.
