Originally from Guangzhou (Canton), China, Victor Shi moved to southern California at the age of 15. Before entering IU, he earned a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and a B.A. in Spanish and Linguistics at UCLA. He hopes to continue his dream of doing interdisciplinary research in Hispanic linguistics while utilizing computational methods. He hopes to focus his research on experimental phonology, multilingualism, and language contact between Spanish and indigenous languages. In particular, he is interested in working on Paraguayan Spanish, Guarani, and Jopara, the code switching of Spanish and Guarani.
