This past fall, Grupo de Teatro VIDA put on four productions inspired by the IU bicentennial themester "Remembering and Forgetting." All of the plays explored our capacity and compulsion to remember and forget. A Ópera do malandro (1978), by Chico Buarque, and La noche de los asesinos (1965), by José Triana, brought us back to the turbulent past of dictatorships across Latin America. Botánica (1991), by Dolores Prida, and Mañana de sol (1905), by José and Serafín Álvarez Quintero, explore the implications of forgetting one's past and history. Both nights were a success, especially given the birthday celebration of one of our cast members, accompanied by authentic Puerto Rican food!
