A chapter I wrote on the grammatical and lexical variation in Panamanian Spanish for the Enciclopedia Concisa de los Dialectos del Español, edited by Prof. Manuel Díaz Campos and Prof. Juan Manuel Hernández Campoy, will be published soon. I am also working on projects related to interpreting services in medical settings. I have presented my research at numerous conferences, including the Hispanic Linguistics Symposium, Current Approaches to Spanish and Portuguese Second Language Phonology (CASPSLaP), and the Institute for Digital Humanities Symposium.
Throughout my time at IUB, I have taught 20 lower and upper-level courses and designed curricula for Introduction to Hispanic Linguistics and Spanish in the Business World. My commitment to education extends beyond the classroom; I have tutored Spanish and mentored new graduate students. As a member of the Graduate Student Advisory Committee (GSAC), I co-organized a graduate student conference and mediated between graduate students and the department’s administrators. In addition, I have worked as a medical interpreter, an editorial consultant, and a violinist for various ensembles.
My dedication to research and community service has been recognized through several awards and fellowships, including the Kimberly L. Geeslin Memorial Award for Outstanding Graduate Research and the Irsay Graduate Fellowship. My project on Spanish-English interpreting services in Indiana received funding from the Irsay Institute to create informational materials for Spanish-speaking patients. Additionally, I have been named a 2024 American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Leading Edge Fellow, with a grant made possible by the Mellon Foundation, to use humanistic knowledge and methods to advance justice and equity in society.
I am deeply grateful to my mentors, Professors Manuel Díaz-Campos, Erik Willis, Gibran Delgado-Díaz, Leslie Del Carpio, Monica Nesbitt, Kimberly Geeslin, Rafael Orozco, and Patrícia Amaral, for their unwavering support and guidance. I extend special thanks to Ben Reed, Karla Allgood, Anne-Sophie Stringer, Jennifer Howard, and Lisa McAuley.
I remain dedicated to promoting multiculturalism and equity and plan to continue this work in the future. I hope to inspire my colleagues to use their knowledge to make a positive impact in their communities.
