Our department has dedicated the Linguistic Lab research rooms in the Global and International Studies Building to the memory of our late colleague, Kimberly L. Geeslin, professor of Hispanic linguistics, in honor of her scholarly and teaching achievements at Indiana University Bloomington, as well as her distinguished career as a researcher who had a great impact on the profession.
Professor Geeslin became a Professor of Spanish and Portuguese in the College of Arts and Sciences in 1999 and focused on the second language acquisition of Spanish. Her impactful scholarly production was also employed to teach both graduate and undergraduate classes throughout the U.S. and internationally, helping to shape future generations of linguists. As an intellectual and colleague, she was bright, outstanding, and always seeking transformational scholarship. She was rigorous, but also supportive and willing to help each person who reached out for guidance. To remember Professor Geeslin’s lasting legacy, we have named the research room in her honor.
