Course Description

Note: Graduate students only.

The Professionalization Workshop Series/S504 provides graduate students in Spanish and Portuguese with support, resources, and opportunities for community building as they transition through various stages of the program and into professional careers – both inside of and outside of academia. The workshops cover a range of topics, which shift per semester. They include things like the “how-to” of graduate school, developing a digital presence, building syllabi and teaching skills, and growing professional and mentorship networks. In addition to the monthly workshops (with preparation and reflection/action items), the circa 15 additional hours per month required by a one credit class will be used to attend and reflect on departmental and non-departmental talks, meet with experts on Grad Grants and from CITL, and read and discuss a vetted book dealing with the profession.
