Course Description

Prerequisite:  HISP-S 280 or HISP-S 310

This course offers an introduction to literary analysis and the interpretation of texts from Spain and Latin America, including narrative, poetry, theater, and graphic novels. The course is organized thematically around some of the following topics: literary representations of ecology and climate change, depictions of utopias and dystopias, and representations of gender and racialization. Throughout the semester we will also be reading Juan Rulfo’s acclaimed novel Pedro Páramo, and we will discuss and analyze contemporary adaptations of this work. The course is designed to help students develop their skills in literary analysis, their critical thinking, and their writing and speaking abilities in Spanish. It also allows students to expand their knowledge of award-wining authors and literary theory. Class will be conducted entirely in Spanish.

Note: This class is open to Hutton Honors College students only.
