Anke Birkenmaier, professor of Spanish and Portuguese at the College of Arts and Sciences, and the poet, essayist, translator, editor, and anthologist, Pedro Serrano, will be talking about Anke’s Spanish edition of Oswald Spengler’s posthumous drama Moctezuma (1897). The conversation will discuss the myth and the history of Moctezuma in the wake of the 500th anniversary of his death, the merits of Spengler’s drama in translation, and the reasons of the lasting impact, in Latin America, of his later Decline of the West. Conversation will be in Spanish with simultaneous translation into English provided.
