I am currently editing a peer-reviewed journal article that explores coloniality, modernity, satire, and colonial stereotypes in Carlos Fuentes' Los días enmascarados (1954) and Julio Cortázar's Final del juego (1956). Likewise, I am editing an article that analyzes the non-fiction narratives of guerrilla fighters in Nicaragua, as found in books such as Gioconda Belli's El país bajo mi piel (2000), Omar Cabezas' La montaña es algo más que una inmensa estepa verde (1982), and Sergio Ramírez’s Adiós muchachos (1999).
As a pedagogue, I have taught Spanish Language and Grammar, Hispanic Cultures, Hispanic Literatures, and Latin American History at the University of Iowa (2016-2018), Indiana University (2018-2025), and Butler University (2023-2024). As an Associate Instructor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, I believe that languages are best learned when taught in the target language, incorporating both grammatical rules and real-life situations. I also served as an Indiana University Honors Program in Foreign Languages (IUHPFL) language instructor in León, Spain (Summer 2019), providing students with an immersive language and literary experience. Altogether, I have sought to create an empathic, engaging, and inclusive learning environment in the classroom.
I have contributed to the academic community through service roles, including co-chair of the Graduate Student Advisory Committee (GSAC) in our department, where I represented the graduate student community and served as a liaison between graduate students and faculty (2022-2023). Additionally, I was part of the organizing committee for the 20th Diálogos Graduate Student Conference in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Literatures and Cultures, as well as Hispanic Linguistics. During my appointment as co-chair, I launched a national and international advertising campaign effort, backed by GSAC members and colleagues, to attract not only panelists from U.S. institutions but also from international universities. This initiative resulted in hosting conference presenters from prestigious global universities, including the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), Universidad Veracruzana (UV), and the University of Alberta (UAlberta), in the fields of Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Literatures and Cultures, as well as Hispanic Linguistics.
As a poet and writer, my poetry and narrative have appeared in literary and cultural magazines such as Letras Libres (Mexico); Literal Magazine: Latin American Voices (U.S./Latin America); DIGOPALABRA.TXT (U.S./Latin America); Revista Corónica (Colombia); Suburbano (U.S./Latin America); and Chiricú Journal: Latina/o Literatures and Cultures (U.S.). Ya no soy el conejito que se comía las uñas (2025) is my first poetry book, published by RiL Editores (Chile) and Valparaíso Ediciones (Spain).
