César Félix-Brasdefer, Professor of Hispanic Linguistics in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, is the new Academic Director of the IU Mexico Gateway located on the campus of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City. Indiana University has a broad range of faculty and students with interdisciplinary research interests across Latin America Spanish-speaking regions and Brazil. The aim of the Mexico Gateway is to help link IU faculty and students with universities, NGOs, government, and alumni, and to increase the visibility and impact of our academic and research activities in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In this role, Professor Felix-Brasdefer works with the Office of the Vice President for International Affairs and the Mexico Gateway staff to promote research collaboration and academic activities between IU faculty and faculty at UNAM and other institutions of higher education in Latin America. In collaboration with the Office of the Vice Provost for International Affairs, he works with faculty on developing existing partnerships or creating new ones to promote collaborations with other institutions. Professor Félix-Brasdefer looks forward to expanding IU's internationalization mission with other gateways in Europe, India, China, and Bangkok to promote and develop faculty-led study abroad programs, to foster IU intellectual exchange through collaborative conferences and workshops, and to connect IU faculty, students, and alumni with researchers in Mexico, the Caribbean, Central, and South America.
