Upon returning from the Dominican Republic, I began pursuing a master’s degree in communication disorders at the University of Houston. There, I was able to work closely with Spanish-speaking clients during externships, further fueling my appreciation for the language.
After graduating in 2021, I moved to Indianapolis and have worked in both educational and medical settings. While both are interesting areas, I have found I am most passionate about working with the preschool population. I am excited to continue working with this population in the fall as a member of the evaluation team with programs for young children at IPS. As the Spanish-speaking population in Indianapolis continues to grow, I hope to continue to communicate and connect with IPS students in their native language.
I am grateful to have attended IU and taken classes in the Spanish department. Courses such as phonetics and linguistics were interesting and directly related to my future career. I am also deeply appreciative of Dr. Erik Willis. I participated in two study abroad programs that he led in the Dominican Republic and grew to appreciate and respect his passion for research, education, and helping others.
